Move to PGL Delayed to End of September

Our new home on the web

Western Sydney Historical will be moved to a “group” on the Penrith Games Lounge after all – by the end of September. Groups are like sub-sites on PGL where special interest groups discuss their activities. Those who are interested in the ramblings of a particular group need only register with that group and the group’s news appears in their activity stream. Makes things easier to find and information to flow a lot faster. The new site is found at:

http://penrithgameslounge.com/groups/western-sydney-historical/

Unfortunately my time is stretched too thin and it is becoming difficult to provide everything for all of the projects that I am involved with, so running a completely separate blog and forum is, simply put, a drain on resources. Integrating it into the existing community is sensible, and means everyone need only visit a single website to get all of their local gaming info.

This site will be deleted by October 1 and the URL (web address) kept available to redirect folks to the new site. So even if you cannot find the group on PGL, the address you are using now will still take you there.

All new posts will be made on PGL, and not here. This will be the final post on this blog. :( But the future looks bright!

The delay until the end of September is to allow everyone to sign up with PGL and become familiar with its use. It’s a bit more like Facebook than a forum per se. If you have any issues in using it please post them here or contact me. Otherwise the new spot on PGL will allow us to operate as we do now (and maybe even attract new historical gamers, or even (cue dramatic drum roll here) create some… ;) ).

Please sign up soon because the login you have created for this site will not be valid for PGL. It’s a separate database and so won’t recognise you as an existing WSH member.

Don’t forget – there are no longer evening meetings for WSH! Don’t believe any left over posters that tell you otherwise! Not everything that is printed has been corrected yet – the Saturdays are the same but only the times have changed… (I’ll try and take down any contrary info in the shop today if I can get in there.)

The calendar on this website is correct, so always confirm with it before committing to travel to a meeting.

Sorry about all the fuss with the WSH websites and meetings lately folks. It should all level off now and be clear flying.

Kids Dice-off At Emperor’s Legion

12th September

Last month, we managed to give away to the kids a large number of Sassanid miniatures, some Roman archers and some Russ as well as trees, dice, some paint and animal miniatures.

The kids can dice off for over 60 15mm Frei Korp Early Germans as I will never get to paint them.

I have also been generously given over 100 1/72nd scale plastic Gauls. From these I have based and undercoated 12 Slingers and 24 Archers and 4 light chariots. I have also under coated 12 of the war band figures on paddle pop sticks ready for painting. There are enough figures for 3 war bands (each 36 figures strong) and about another 8 light chariots). The war band figures would need to be based as medium infantry in FOG (3 figures to a base)

Plus Matisse Derivan have provided some Derivan MiNis to give away.

So I would like to encourage you to bring the family, your kids and their friends and give them a chance to win the beginnings of an army.

Games being run on the 12th September at Emperor’s Legion include:

· Warhammer 40,000
· Warmachine/ Hordes
· Warhammer Fantasy
· The Battle of Plataea using Junior General
· Rapid Fire – Operation Martlet
· Fields of Glory

And much more…

Even More Plastics Inbound…

Warlord Prussian Landwehr march in column.Napoleonics!

Argh, that’s torn it! I thought it would take ages before the ’other’ Napoleonic army I wanted was going to be done in plastic, but oh no… The Prussians for the 1813 War of Liberation are being done by not one, but TWO manufacturers! Perry Miniatures and Warlord Games. Sorry wallet, this is going to hurt!

Ancients

Pics of Victrix’s new Greek Hoplites are online now. And Wargames Factory are doing Achaemenid Persians in plastic too. These will be a while though…

Website Move Postponed

The proposed WSH website move to PGL is being put off for now. This site will remain for a bit longer.

The move is still on the cards though… stay tuned.

(Yes, this post was edited. Sneaky lil me… ;) )

Games Nights Have Become Games Days!

Due to the repeated issues with running our meetings on Saturday nights we have decided to change to Saturday daytime whilst the shop is officially open. This relieves the store of providing staff coverage which has been challenging for the last few months, culminating in our unfortunate cancellation of the August 28 meeting, which has clearly (and rightly) ruffled a few feathers.

So, the Saturdays will remain the same only the start time will change. All Saturday meetings within the Tin Soldier will now begin at 10am (store opening) and will take place in the back games room of the store. We will continue until 4pm, when the store officially closes.

We will no longer be running any evening/night WSH meetings in the store.

I understand that this is not ideal for everybody but the truth is we cannot keep everyone happy, and at least the meetings can go ahead this way even if strategic club members cannot make it for some reason. In other words, we will never have to cancel meetings ever again in the way we had to last night.

Hopefully we will see you all there! Cheers, and once again thank you all for your patience during this challenging time.

August 28 Meeting Cancelled

We apologise to anyone who turned up for our August 28 meeting and found the doors locked. We unfortunately had to cancel with no notice. :(

We are in negotiations to move to a daytime meeting time to avoid any repeat of this situation. Thanks all for your patience…

Warlord Announces German Support Weapons

Warlord Games has announced some snazzy new support weapon teams to go along with the amazing new German plastics.

These include both a new MG42 team with tripod MG and an 8.1cm Mortar team.

For more details (and full images) go and check out them out on Warlord’s site.

Some Magnificent Models

Recently I met a gentleman from Lithgow who told me about his model building. He agreed to share some photos of his work with the historical gaming community.

They are not wargaming models but are astoundingly well made.

All models are scratch-built out of wood and other materials, and by hand – not from a kit.

Bolt Action Plastic Germans Latest

They’ve been released early, and are already available. Pester your local store for some next time you are in. ;)

New Hoplites From Immortal

Immortal Miniatures has announced that they will shortly be releasing two(!) new boxes of Greek Hoplites to cover the period between the start of the Peloponnesian War through to the end of Alexander the Great’s empire.

The sets will be based on the current Immortal Miniatures Greek Hoplite set, but with new bodies and so forth to better represent the later styles worn by Greek Hoplites.

There will be a Spartan and Classical Greek set, which will include all other city-states including Thebes.

The new Hoplites are due for sale at the beginning of September!

In other news, Immortal has announced new plastic Achaemenid Persians as well, but these will come later and exhibit many new details only recently unearthed by archaeological research.
